I see no point in reinventing the wheel

I’m too busy for that.

The last two weeks of second grade are a blur.

We had third grade orientation, Moving Up Day (The Boy will be going to a new school for grade 3), Spring Concert (he had a solo with his friend who happens to be a girl but is ABSOLUTELY NOT his girlfriend), and Field Day.  Then we had his class play (The Foolish Little Hare) complete with classroom ‘reception’ following performance.  I made Whoopie Pies.  They were incredible.

I said something to Mom the other day and she replied, “You’d rather be too busy than bored… you wouldn’t know what to do with yourself if you were bored.”

She’s right, of course, but don’t tell her that!  I suffer from chronic insomnia (it’s been YEARS), so napping when I’m bored isn’t an option.  And I have a terrible relationship with food, so chances are boredom would also lead to mindless eating.

I guess I WOULD rather be busy and productive with a perpetual to-do list.

It has always been my intention to write a piece on my favorite essential kitchen tools.  Judy beat me to it.  It’s like she was reading my mind because I kept finding myself nodding in agreement as I went through the post.  So please, read this post and follow the advice given by my friend Judy from Philly.  You will find cooking to be less of a chore if you are prepared with the right (usually inexpensive and multi-use) equipment.

Judy is a great lady who happens to be one of the most talented chefs I know, and her appeal to me is heightened because she’s also a gardener and kitchen pack rat.  I say that in the nicest way since I, too, am a pack rat.

Enjoy Judy’s words of wisdom and be sure to check back because she’s always whipping up something fabulous and posting it to her blog, Life on the Food Chain.
